THCA Endorsed Candidates Sweep Primary ContestsThe party primaries held in Texas on Tuesday yielded positive results for candidates endorsed by the THCA PAC. All nine candidates endorsed by the PAC who had primary opponents won without a runoff. Most of these candidates are unopposed or face minimal opposition in the general election this November. These candidates are:
The most important of these victories was the reelection by his constituents of House Speaker Joe Straus. Combined with results from around the state, Straus’ win makes it a virtual certainty that he will again serve as Speaker during the 2017 Legislative Session. While long term care faces many challenges in the Legislature, Speaker Straus and his team have been supportive on our issues and worked well with THCA. We look forward to working with them in the years to come. Thanks to THCA members who were volunteered for and supported candidates during this election season. Thanks also to our Candidates Committee, who examined these races and made recommendations for the first endorsements THCA has ever made. THCA PAC will monitor other races through primary run offs in May and the general election in November and look for opportunities for our members to help candidates who will be supportive of our issues. We encourage everyone to communicate and build relationships with your legislators and legislative candidates and assist in campaigns this election year. |
